The Tritessellate Crystalmat split from its ancestor and entered the watershed. Fueled by sunlight, dead stuff, and the flora it consumes by growing over it, its growth is just as aggressive here as it was in the ocean; it is only controlled by its primary predator, the Freshwater Shovelface. Genetic drift has resulted in it developing triangular crystals instead of hexagonal ones. To help it survive attacks from its predator, it has developed considerable regenerative abilities, which allow pieces to keep growing even after they’ve been greatly fragmented, though this does not stop even more shovelfaces from eating them.
