Northern Polarstar
With food present there, leslilstars started to make their way north. The northern polarstar split off and developed more compact proportions to conserve heat and avoid freezing, and it repurposes antifreeze proteins produced by the adorbalgae it eats to help. It is capable of surviving in temperate climates where it does not compete with its ancestor, which would otherwise be more efficient, as well. It has darker coloration, which also helps with cold resistance and has an unintentional side effect of making its body more hostile to pathogens. It is otherwise identical to its ancestor; it is a filter feeder which uses a simple nervous system and chemoreceptors to direct its swimming towards food, it removes waste through a primitive anus, and it reproduces by fragmentation.
