Fossoria
(Redirected from Lutovermida)
Fossoria is a class of worm-like organisms in the phylum Lutovermida that have changed relatively little from their ancestors in overall niche, being small burrowing organisms that primarily live beneath the seafloor. A defining feature of this group is the fleshy parapodia between each of their chitin segments.
Subgroups
Order Psuedolumbriciformes
Known as the Mudworms, this branch contains the members of Fossoria who remained relatively unchanged in their bodyplan.
Order Nematolumbriciformes
Known as the Wrigglers, this branch is characterized by more nektonic habits, bristly setae on paddle-like parapodia, and a pharyngeal digestive mesh. More derived forms even possess launching hydrostatic jaws, rows of aragonite-lens eyes, and multiple body segments.
