Replacing the Terradora comes an entire genus of these cute algae. Continentadoras are smaller than their ancestor, which helps them to spread far and wide by wind dispersal. They can enter a state of lowered metabolism with a dramatically thickened cell wall during unfavorable conditions, weeks at a time in some species, and during this time the wind can bring them to all continents. Like their ancestor, they have 2 nuclei and can navigate to better light using light-sensitive organelles. As photosynthesizers, they make use of sunlight to convert carbon dioxide into oxygen.
