The Darwinadora is an algae-like cell found in Darwin’s freshwater river systems. Having lost its ancestral terrestrial habits, it instead prefers to swim through the waters for the perfect spot to soak in the sunlight. It also thrives on the surface of the mud which surrounds the rivers, though in the event of a drought those not in the water will eventually desiccate and die. It swims by pulling itself along with its two long antenna-like flagella with some extra propulsion provided by two shorter, stronger flagella. Like its ancestor and similar to some real-world algae, it navigates using 2 light-sensitive organelles, and it has two nuclei.
