The Yokto Stemleaf split off from its ancestor and increased in size due in part to relatively low competition in its home, Yokto Island. To reproduce on land, it has completely lost its faunal larval stage; instead, zygotes formed by its airborne spores germinate directly in the ground. The only vestige of its faunal past is that young Yokto Stemleaves can flex their leaves to some limited extent, but their muscles atrophy long before they reach full size. To support its new reproductive method, it has also developed a long stalk so that its leaves, which spores are produced along the edges of, are held far off the ground where it is easier for the wind to catch them.
