Brown Daggergrass

While most members of the dagger lineage went for a more defensive route, brown daggergrass went back to a somewhat sinister lifestyle, like its distant ancestors and contemporaries. This small, voracious flora is a common decomposer in both forested and sunny areas of Glicker. They are fairly simple, and will grow faster and in larger numbers than their ancestor, spreading like weeds.

While they subsist on any dead material they can leech up from the soil, they have a particular preference towards large fauna. The poison glands on their surface are now mostly accumulated near the top, and the poison itself has become a quick paralyzing agent that can kill a sentrok in only around an hour. This derived venom-delivery setup is not used merely as a defense, but directly feeds the daggergrass. Clumsy or injured organisms may fall on or stab themselves with these sharp crystals, which is enough to eventually kill them. When an unfortunate creature dies near brown daggergrass, the daggergrass will extend roots out into the organism to feed, which only wither away once the only thing left is skeleton or other hard parts.

To greatly magnify the chance of this actually happening, they emit similar odor chemicals to soilpods, which they share their range with. Their similar coloration is even more convincing, especially to organisms that have eaten soilpods before. Of course, due to them being selected specifically for creatures to get closer to them, they have lost their warning stripes.

Brown daggergrass also gets sharper as it matures. they start out short, but grow to be taller and pointier without really changing their width much. They only start producing venom after they have reached a certain age, which is usually after about one month.
