Aquamarine Pentacrystal

This flat, hardy flora has adapted for a generalist life in southern Darwin. For one, it has become pentaradial due to a sudden but non-lethal mutation. This helped it evolve its characteristic domed shape, as it required the modification of fewer genes to do so. It has also taken on a light blue hue, as it has developed a blue accessory pigment. This blue accessory pigment faintly changes its absorption spectrum, allowing it to take on a separate niche from the other crystal flora. This new accessory pigment is actually quite dark and vivid, but it only produces a small amount of it, making it more of a cyan color.

Pentacrystals also have long roots, sometimes reaching a meter or more in length. These roots are longer in every direction, as having long roots in any direction is beneficial to the organism, as opposed to only being longer in a particular direction. The longer roots extending downwards help it absorb more groundwater, and the ones to the side extend its detritivorous feeding envelope. It also has longer reproductive roots, placing its asexual offspring far away from the parent as to avoid competition.

Their flat shape is also adapted for many things. It helps them cover more area for photosynthesis, but it also protects them from weather and herbivores. They have become larger underneath as well, and will attack any competing hividot using stronger digestive enzymes.
