Crystal Goblin

The Crystal Goblin has split from the Monket and, over the course of thousands of years and hundreds of generations, taken on a terrestrial existence. However, given the anatomy it has shared with its ancestor, it hasn't exactly adapted all that well to its new role. Because of this, it has had to adapt in a new way, taking on a carnivorous diet in the process, as it exploits a previously ignored niche: aggressive mimicry. As such, it has been able to spread beyond the reaches of its ancestral lands, spreading further throughout the heart of the continent of Darwin.

Grown adults will partition out territories amongst themselves, marking the boundaries with a potent smelling waste that is often smeared across notable landmarks, such as large rocks and flora. Within their territories, they will crawl about as they seek out the best hunting spots, typically those thriving in such crystal flora species like Crystal Peridot, Network Peridot, and the Neurocrystals. They do this because they themselves mimic the overall appearance and coloration of them, as well as, to a certain degree, their scent as well due to the constant close contact. When hunting, they will remain perfectly still, eyes slightly open, as they wait for unwary prey to get too close. Once they are within range, or even climbing atop them, they are rapidly snapped up and consumed. This hunting style doesn't take up much energy, thus the Crystal Goblins can remain motionless for days at a time as they wait for a meal, though such occasions are incredibly rare.

During the warmer parts of the year, females will leave their territories and seek out a mate. Should they successfully find one, they will eventually give live birth to several babies which are shown no further parental care. Hiding amongst the loose crystal litter that dots the ground, they will hunt down small Shed Knightworms and such until they are large enough to establish territories of their own.
