Creeping Jade

The lush forests of Barlowe were not providing quite enough light to the orpiment jewels. Creeping jade evolved in response to the immense competition. This organism forms long, shallow, underground roots dotted with crystals in order to maximize its area of photosynthesis. These crystals have become very sharp in order to keep predators away. Sometimes, the creeping jade may also form above-ground roots, anchored to the sides of petrolignum trees with a glue-like adhesive. This helps them gain height over competing purple foliage that may drown out ground-dwelling jade. Its poison remains similar to its ancestor, and it retains the orpiment’s detritivorous abilities.
