In the waters around Fermi, the Fermi Helmweed rapidly diversified into various forms. They have spread across the Dixon-Fermi Subtropical Sea to the temperate waters around Dixon. Their perineal structures called hatts have become greatly varied in shape and size. Their frond shape and their positions on the hatt also vary. They reproduce much like their ancestor, with sporangia and gametophytes produced in a central depression in the hatts center. Polar species possess the largest hatts and tend to have smaller fronds, storing a large sugar reserve to overwinter. Subtropical species have smaller hatts and larger fronds which will persist throughout the year along with the hatt.
