Due to a rise in competition, a lineage of Spectestars eventually became fully reliant on parasitisation, and began migrating to the waters above, developing pinhole eyes for the increased level of light. As they have entered waters with more active life, they adapted as well, increasing its own activity rate and sense of smell, along with hearing, using the spines on its back (which are in much larger numbers) to help with feeling vibrations. Their most notable difference is Their mouth, which now possesses a pair of 'jaws covered in multiple rows of teeth, all used to sink into and tear flesh from larger organisms. When shut, the teeth are either flat or curving inwards, as to avoid getting stuck to the lips and tearing it, which these lips are present to prevent the teeth from eroding. When suitable prey is found, it will open its lips, before extending its jaws to their full extent, then hover over a fleshy area, before shutting its jaws, casing a piece to be torn from the animal, which then it will close its lips and flew with their meal. After food has been acquired, a group of teeth on motile groups of muscles will begin breaking it apart and sending it to the last set of teeth, which is used to grind up food before it's finally absorbed into its oral cavity.

Other than that, they are mostly the same as their ancestor, being lamprey-like creatures with 6 fins, a webbed tail with 3 digits. They respire with 3 clusters of gill strands, which are most compact and lengthy on their dorsal side, which are a slightly darker color to blend with their countershading. They give live birth in the open, which the juveniles are left to fend for themselves
