Forest purplestem split from its ancestor, moving into the understory of the Terra Grove-dominated Darwin Temperate Forest, Darwin Tropical Rainforest, and Glicker Tropical Forest, where radiation is less intense but green light is still plentiful. With richer soil in the forests, the undersides of the organism have lost detritivorous capabilities in favor of simple nutrient uptake and anchoring. The more tolerable conditions of the forests have allowed them to exchange mass for height and surface area, growing thinner, taller, and with offshoots to maximize light capture.

They are now fully multicellular, growing from basal offshoots or the dried, detached stem offshoots of mature purplestems which tend to blow or wash away. Dried cells from desiccating branches tend to become airborne, acting as spores that are blown onto branches of other individuals which are receptive to this new genetic material and produce genetically distinct offshoots of their own.
